Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between independent living (IL) and assisted living (AL)?
Independent residents are able to manage their activities of daily living (ADL’s) without the help of the community staff. These activities include dressing, toileting, bathing, medication management and transport between their apartments and community programs. Assisted Living provides a staff of nurses and resident aides to help with ADL’s.
How do I know if I (or my parent) need assisted living?
Level of care can be determined by a physician’s recommendation or an assessment conducted by our Director of Care. Recommendations and assessments typically involve the individual’s ability to manage ADL’s as listed above.
Can a resident receive help with ADL’s from outside the community and still live as an independent resident?
Yes. There are many licensed home health care organizations that can provide assistance with ADL’s. It is up to the resident and family to make arrangements with outside organizations for healthcare services which are billed independently of Cardinal.
Are there any AL services that Cardinal can provide for independent residents?
Cardinal can provide assistance with medications only in the form of reminders and safety checks.
What other healthcare services do you offer or allow?
Cardinal provides therapy services to our residents on site through a licensing agreement with Legacy Healthcare Services. Legacy provides physical, occupational and speech therapy to Cardinal residents. Additionally, independent hospice, medical and non-medical home healthcare services may be used at the resident or family member’s discretion.
How much will living at Cardinal cost me (us)?
Independent apartments are leased on a monthly basis starting at $1680 for a studio and ranging up to $3020 for a two bedroom unit. Most available independent apartments are one bedroom units which rent for an average of $2410. Assisted Living apartments are billed at a daily rate based upon the extent of services provided for each resident. The minimum daily rate begins at $144 and ranges up to a maximum of $164.
What other fees can we expect?
A $1000 refundable security deposit will be collected at the time of the lease signing. If residents choose to bring a pet, a $750 carpet replacement fee will be collected along with a $25 monthly charge. Cardinal also provides a number of additional a la carte services for independent residents that, if selected, would be billed to their monthly statement. These options can be found under the Independent Plus Options section.
Do you offer any financial assistance?
Cardinal is a private pay community; however, there are two government programs which can help defray the costs of assisted living. The Veteran’s Aid & Attendance Benefit offers assistance to veteran’s and spouses. Also, after three years of residency, we will accept the Ohio Medicaid Waiver Program for those who have depleted their financial assets while at Cardinal. Qualification into these programs is based upon individual assets as determined by The Veteran’s Affairs and the Government of the State of Ohio, respectively.
Do I have to move in on the first of the month?
You can move in on any day of the month as we will prorate your first month’s rent.
